Trigger Point Dry Needling Level-1

2 Days | 16 Hrs  

This course is open for all registered Medical Professionals, Physical Therapist and registered massage therapists only. 

Upon completion the therapist will:

• Adhere to safe needling techniques, Including precautions and CDC and/or OSHA guidelines.

• Know the history of Trigger Point and Dry Needling.

• Know the mechanisms of Trigger Point Perpetuation. 

• List various types of Trigger Point.

• Be able to identify trigger point referral patterns. 

• List various types of dry needling intervention.

• List various physiological effects of Dry Needling in Trigger Point Management.

• List Contraindications of Dry Needling Intervention.

• List three palpation methods.

• Master palpation of surface anatomy of Upper Extremity (Superficial muscles) in order to perform accurate dry needling intervention. 

• Master palpation of surface anatomy of Lower Extremity (Superficial muscles) in order to perform accurate dry needling intervention. 

• Master palpation of surface anatomy of Back (Superficial muscles) in order to perform accurate dry needling intervention. 

• Master the ‘Patient Positioning Thumb Rules’ for dry needling intervention.

• Expertise the needling of Upper Extremity, Superficial muscles.

• Expertise the needling of Lower Extremity, Superficial muscles.

• Expertise the needling of Back, Superficial muscles. 

• Master to examine trigger points and create specific dry needling treatment protocol. 

• Be evaluated for needle insertion competency.   

• Be able to administer Dry Needling in any clinical set up ( Consent, Legislative issues, CPT Codes and CMS Standpoint ) 

The 2 Day Live course will be conducted using following Instructional Methods:

Lecture - ( A live session includes presentation of theory using projection technology which will cover topics like, History, Mechanism, Safety Guide, Research Review, Treatment Planning Methodology, Needling fundamentals etc.)

Lab - The lab session of the course will be conducted using the 'three step' method, demonstration ( done by Instructor), Practice ( done by delegates ), Supervision of Practice ( done by Instructor). Delegates will be divided into pairs of 2 or 3 and will be allotted appropriate time, space and equipment to practice. 

Course Material - Candidates will receive - 1. A Booklet (PDF) - which will cover general course related information like, consent format, safety guidelines, medical waste disposal resource references etc. 2. Course manual - which will cover the theory as well as practical instruction part of the course.

3D Anatomy - A University standard 3D Anatomy software (Complete Anatomy by Elsevier) will be used throughout the course for better learning of surface anatomy and needle insertion during Lab Sessions for each muscle taught. (3D visuals will improve the safe practice chance as the candidate will be able to identify and spare the vitals around the locus of insertion.)

Theory Test - This will be a digital MCQ style test, conducted through Dr. Sanghvi’S Academics Mobile Application ( Named as - “My Institute” on Apple Store ) and will be able to release the result in real time. ( Not Applicable for Level 1 and 2, it is applicable in level - 3 course of DN )

Practical Test - This test will examine skills like, patient placement, safe needle handling and needle insertion technique. It will help to evaluate the competency of the candidate to perform an effective dry needling procedure. ( Applicable for all the Three Levels of courses of DN )

History and Development of Trigger Point and Dry Needling with brief conceptual insight, Etio-pathology of Trigger Point, Characteristics and Classifications of trigger Points.  Fundamentals of Referral Pain and Patterns.

Needling practice on self by the self with 1/2” - 1” needles in order to practice Safety and Disposal Ethics. Building up the confidence to be present as a model for fellow participants.

Superficial Muscles of Shoulder and Arms

Evaluation Training: Examining Muscle Actions and Trigger Points, Identifying Vitals around the Muscle, Reviewing Root Value, Clinical Significance, and Referral Patterns. 

Insertion Training: Marking Surface Anatomy, Positioning, Palpation, Needling and Disposal.

List of Muscles: Upper Trapezius, Deltoid, Biceps, Triceps and Brachialis. (4)

Superficial Muscles of Hip

List of Muscles: Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Minimus, TFL. (4)

Practical Problem Solving Training 

Individual candidates are attended and corrected by the instructor for their problems, limiting their skills of insertion.

Muscle Needling Competency Evaluation

Checks:

Accuracy of Muscle Location and Patient Positioning skills.

Accuracy of Safe Needle Handling skills. 

Accuracy of Reasoning for the selection of DN Maneuver.

Accuracy of Needling Precision.

20:00 onwards

Total of 30+ Superficial Muscles will be covered in this course and are listed in the Course Schedule section above.

Candidate will be able to Suffix,  DDN-MPS ( Diplomate Dry Needling in Myofascial Pain Syndrome ) after he attends all the three level courses and clears exam for the final level-3. 

The course can be applied for the roster for respective colleges.
